Callie Hietala is the Tours and Community Programs Manager at the William King Museum of Art in Abingdon, VA, though coworkers (and many visitors) simply call her the Director of Fun. She has been with the Museum since 2010, joining the staff shortly after graduating from the College of William & Mary, and has held a number of titles including VanGogh Outreach Instructor, Director of Educational Programming, and Curator. She is also the producer and co-host of Art Speaks, a weekly radio program on WEHC 90.7 that explores the artistic culture of the region. Outside of her work at the William King, Callie serves on the boards of the Wolf Hills Community School and the Arts Alliance Mountain Empire. She is also on the committee for A! Magazine for the Arts and on the Programming Committee for Bristol's PUSH! Film Festival, referees FLL LEGO Robotics competitions, and occasionally gives ghost tours of historic downtown Abingdon as the town's Assistant Haintmistress.
Why are you participating?
Callie is participating in BigWigs this year in honor of close friends and family members who have been affected by breast cancer. She is excited to share in the community of love, support, and healing that surrounds this project.
