Why are you participating?
Maria is a full-time painter and mother of two boys. She grew up in Bogotá , Colombia where she studied Art and Industrial Design. She moved to Roanoke in 1999 and finished her art degree at Hollins University. She started her art and decorative painting business during her senior year and it has been an amazing journey of learning and growing in her art. Maria loves living in Roanoke and being surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains where there’s never a shortage of inspiration. She paints both representational and abstract subjects, always using her fearless love of color and movement. Her work mainly focuses on the process as well as the joy and excitement of translating the way she experiences the world!
Maria loves being able to use her art to support the community, and Komen Virginia Blue Ridge is one of the organizations she has chosen to support for the past few years. She really likes that a large percentage of the money goes to help local women and to create awareness about this horrible disease. As a mother and woman, she fears breast cancer and the thought of losing any of the amazing women in her life to this disease. She hates seeing brave and courageous women endure this fight and wants to do what she can to contribute in finding a cure.
