Why are you participating?
Tyler and Allison Bowersock of RunAbout Sports Roanoke are honored to serve as BigWigs for this year's 2018 Race for the Cure. They first aligned with Komen VA Blue Ridge several years ago when a friend, Kim Smith, asked Allison of "Team Bowersock" to help co-direct the race as the planning committee was looking for more runners to be involved in the planning stages. Unfortunately, Kim lost her life to breast cancer not long after the event that year, so Tyler and Allison continue to serve the mission of Susan G. Komen in Kim's memory. "Team Bowersock" is excited to help the Roanoke community engage in healthy habits through training for the Race for the Cure 5k and 10k races as well as give back through team donations for Susan G. Komen. As co-owners of RunAbout Roanoke, Tyler and Allison feel it is important to "practice what we preach" not just for their Race for the Cure training group participants, but for their friends, families, and fellow community members. Evidence suggests maintaining a healthy weight and engaging in regular physical activity helps lower risk and prevent development of certain cancers, including breast cancer, so what better way to give back to Susan G. Komen and practice what they preach than serving as BigWigs for the 2018 campaign? Tyler and Allison hope you will join them in participating in a training group for the race, racing with them, and donating to their fundraising campaign.
