Why are you participating?
I'm Larry Landolt, owner of Tour Roanoke and the new Salt Foot Sanctuary, and Spa & Adventure Center at Hotel Roanoke. I'm originally from southern New Jersey near Philadelphia and moved to Roanoke in 1999 after finishing school and living in Florida for over 20 years. After spending years building and running many of Roanoke's best-known events and festivals, in 2013, we began Roanoke Food Tours, which has evolved into so many wonderful opportunities. But most of all we love being a part of the current evolution of Roanoke and Virginia's Blue Ridge region, We enjoy showing off many of the fun and truly unique features and activities we enjoy here in our area. This year it is my honor to be participating in the Virginia Blue Ridge Susan G. Komen Big Wig fundraiser. Like countless others, breast cancer has taken its toll on my family. Before her time, my mother died of complications resulting from breast cancer. Upon reflection, for me, one of the saddest things that I still feel to this day is that my mother died before getting to know my daughter (her youngest grand-daughter), who was one year old at the time. Therefore, it feels right to do my part to help in the cause to prevent and lessen the impact of this disease.
So when asked, 'would you participate and be a Big Wig?" With some concern about feeling embarrassed when wearing my pink wig, I said yes! Please consider donating to my campaign, or that of any of the other amazing "Big Wigs!" Thank you.
